It’s probably a phrase that resonates with you one way or another. Personally, I’ve been in between things for a lot of my life. And when you think about it, in and in-between are different.

This is a collection of 80 works created over a period of four months while I was homeless, staying on friends' couches and in strangers' rented rooms. I had with me only what I could carry, and my entire studio in a bag.

In-between: When you try to connect and can’t very well, and spend enough time alone, you have to either learn to become enough for yourself, or find comfort in other ways (which for a lot of my life, has been more of the latter). Outside of friend groups, outside of love, on the outside of feeling normal, normally. Generally just on the outside of regular life happening. For a long time, it felt like the reality many were able to live in was an out-of-bounds area in some video game that I could mostly look at through screens, from my side of the fence. But either way, it’s okay, because I’ve also found that outside is a place that tends to give the best perspective. If you can find something greater than yourself to believe in, intentional stillness and solitude become an echo chamber of truth. I feel few have the reason, time, or courage to sit with their whole self though; most prefer to stay busy. But truthfully, most don’t have a choice. I think it’s also easier to understand why you’re accepted than to try and understand why you’re not. It’s just natural to be and do the same as everyone around you, to follow the same flowing path of water, the one of least resistance - not that either route is a choice for most. So while it would have been nice to be part of more in the past, I don’t know if I’d be the same person that I am now. And I love that person.

Those spaces in-between where I’ve lived most of my life, where it sometimes feels like a lifetime of reflection has taken place, can only begin to be explained through art. But more importantly, that space is the one I’ve used to create a world I don’t need anyone else to be part of to enjoy. I do hope you enjoy, though.
